After over a decade of anticipation, the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series has been confirmed for a fall 2025 release, with no more delays expected. Rockstar Games released the first trailer for GTA 6 in December last year, which quickly became the most-viewed video within 24 hours, breaking multiple records. The trailer also confirmed the 2025 release date.
Despite rumors suggesting potential delays to 2026, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has dismissed these claims. In their Q4 2024 earnings call, Take-Two clarified the release details.
Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two, stated in an interview with IGN, “Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI. We do feel highly confident that we’ll deliver [Grand Theft Auto VI] in fall of 2025.”
Zelnick also noted that GTA V has sold over 200 million copies worldwide since its release in 2013, making it the second-best-selling game title after Minecraft, which has over 300 million sales.
GTA 6 will initially be available only for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with the PC release timeline yet to be confirmed. The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida and includes Vice City, a fictionalized version of Miami.
